Yoga Etiquette
Yoga is a personal endeavor that requires one to detach from the external environment and journey into the self. The following guidelines will help foster the best possible ambience for optimal yoga practice.
-
Please remove shoes before entering the practice space. This helps keep the studio extra clean and is also a symbolic gesture of your intention to be fully present and mindful during your practice.
-
Please, no food or beverages other than water in class. You are welcome to bring water in the studio. We appreciate the use of reusable, personal cups or bottles as this reduces waste.
-
Please roll mats out quietly.
-
Let your teacher know if you have to leave class early.
-
Arrive early to inform instructors of any injuries, concerns, or special health conditions.
-
Please turn off all cell phones.
-
Abandon the competitive mind-set. Yoga is absolutely non-competitive. They are mindful practices which make the body stronger, more flexible, and generally healthier. The aim is to calm the mind, open the heart, and accelerate our evolution.
-
Be kind and loving to yourself by accepting where you are. Rest sometimes. Do what you can, with what you have, and with where you are. Listen to your body, pushing yourself beyond comfort and pain is not part of any practice.
-
We suggest purchasing your own yoga mat. We have mats for use in the studio but it is not as hygienic or as meaningful as practicing on your own mat.
-
Wear comfortable clothes - leggings or shorts and a top that is not too baggy will help your teacher guide alignment in poses.
-
Please do not step on other students' yoga mats.
-
If a student arrives late, be gracious and make room.Leave no trace. Please deposit trash, recycling, mats and towels in their proper place.
-
Bring home your clothes, water bottles and equipment.
-
Please no perfume, cologne or heavily-scented lotions in class.
